Tea Aid: the tea community rallies to help those suffering in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy

Here on the West Coast it is difficult to imagine the devastation wrought by Superstorm Sandy, and the painful aftermath of these past couple of weeks. It will take an incredible amount of work to rebuild and recover, and we applaud the tremendous efforts that so many organizations and individuals have made to help those in such dire need. All the way on the other side of the country we can still make a difference, to help aid and comfort those who have lost so much.

There are many ways that we can all contribute to aid efforts, but we would like you to consider participating in a collective aid effort by the tea community. Inspired by the desire to help, Yoon Hee Kim, of Tea Classics and Hancha Tea, came up with the idea of a concerted effort by tea people, unified under the name “Tea Aid.” She quickly mobilized a handful of participants and started getting the word out, through Facebook and other social media. As a result of the prevalent kindness and generosity of so many people within the tea community, the idea has taken hold quickly. Events have already been held in New Jersey and Southern California, and there are several upcoming events on the calendar, with four simultaneous events scheduled for this coming Saturday, the 17th of November.

Phoenix Tea is one of the participants in the events taking place on Saturday. Our event will take place from 1:00pm until 4:00pm in our store. We will be serving and teaching about tea, and we will also have snacks. Event participants will be expected to make donations to the American Red Cross. Please bring checks made out to the American Red Cross. We will send them all in together. If you can come, please sign up through our event on Facebook, or send an email to Cinnabar@phoenix-teashop.com.
